Glemsford is extremely fortunate in having a really dynamic NHS surgery that puts most others to shame.
The surgery includes a dispensing service. But doctors and medicines are only part of it.
They have their own website:

On matters medical, Glemsford First Responders have been
established for several years, do a brilliant job, and also have their own
website | |
Glemsford School, on Lion Road, has been educating the children of the village since 1873. It goes from strength to strength.Recent refurbishment has added new classroom space and further improvements to an excellent set up. It is among the very best.Don't listen to those who think the grass is greener in Cavendish or Hartest. Simply, it isn't.The school has its own website. Visit it at this address: www.glemsfordschool.co.uk/Historical details of the school can be found at this address, or click on the picture. | |
The Church of St Mary the Virgin
is far more than just a beautiful building.
The village chuch is all about its congregation and their faith.
The Glem Valley Benefice
has its own website and the Rector, Patrick Prigg, may be contacted
at this address: revpat@glem-valley.org.uk |

Glemsford has its own Parish Council,
with its own web site. Being a Parish Councillor is a thankless task at the best of times, and those that serve this village
deserve a lot of credit and far more support than they get. True public servants. For instance they've taken on the running
of the Village Hall lately because no-one else would volunteer, and they are having to spend far too much time dealing with the
sad little boys who enjoy vandalising the village's facilities and whose sad little parents are so pathetic and brain dead
that they think their little darlings have the sun shining out of their backsides. |
We should all support the Council
and those who help them in their work to make the village a better place.
You can contact the clerk to the council at this e-mail address
council@glemsfordpc.co.uk or on 01787 282740.
Glemsford Library continues to prosper. I have now allocated it its
own page on this site.

Glemsford's BusinessBeing a large village, Glemsford has been well-served by shops and businesses. As with all things, change happens.
There was a bakery selling excellent bread produced from real ingredients in real ovens on the premises: Anne's Pantry,
on Brook Street that closed in 2006;
there is a Post Office and General Stores, recently refurbished and under new ownership, on Lion Road.(01787 280957);
Argents, the newsagents and general store, was on Tye Green but also closed in 2006;
Turners, General Store and Fish and Chip Shop is also on Tye Green (01787 280918)
Then there's Hunts Hill Stores selling everything from nails to milk and veg: on the corner of Drapery Common (01787 280270).
Almost directly opposite is the village hairdresser's, The Cutting Room (01787 280650). Further down the village, on
Egremont Street is Glemsford Tyres.
The small Commercial and Industrial Units at Clock House have been well-used for several years, by a variety of companies.
SALTERTRADING is one example of a small, locally-run company using the faciltities there.
I am delighted to offer them space on this site, too. |
There used to be 2 petrol stations in the village: Farrance's (Glemsford Motor Services - who specialise in repairs and
servicing) on Bells Lane (01787 280307) and the Jet garage (Bowers Leisure) on Lower Road
(where there was a comprehensive caravan sales operation too) unfortunately now closed, and now the first Antiques operation
within Glemsford's parish boundaries. So now there is no petrol in the village.
David Bremner operates a driving school,
very successfully. (01787 281260) The village no longer has a butcher's shop, Andy Gardiner - who was the village's
last retail butcher - was operating a delivery service of the same excellent meat as was previously sold over the counter in
Broadway Stores. Prices were very competitive. As for quality, you wouldn't touch supermarket rubbish again.
As from March 2003, his (pre-packed) meat was on sale in the Mace/Post Office Stores as well.
But in early 2004, he went out of business, as I understand it, because larger commercial customers of his delivery service
wouldn't pay their bills on time. Shame. Good luck, Andy. The Broadway Stores are still selling pre-packed meat. |

We also have several pubs
and the Social Club (01787 281094) The Cock Inn
has a "four diamond" B & B operation in the village - a much needed resource - and its own page on this site. Wongs Takeaway (01787 282282), despite some opposition when it first opened, has proved a real asset to the village. | Beestons Coaches of Hadleigh (01473 823243) provide Glemsford with a pretty good service of buses, running between Sudbury and Haverhill during the day, but not on Sundays. |
