Celebrating 125 Years

On 4 July 1998, Glemsford School held its celebration of 125 years of service to the village community, with an Open Day, a fete, a sports event and an evening barbecue.

The weather was kind. The afternoon was set under way with an official opening ceremony conducted by illustrator, Barry Applebey.

Immediately afterwards, the event celebrated the re-inauguration of the School clock,
The imposing clock of Glemsford School
which has been in situ since the building of the School, but which has been out of use for many years.

The whole afternoon was very much a community event, in line with Headteacher Liz Steele's wishes for the future of the School. The fete incorporated the annual Church fete; the Morris Men of Little Egypt performed a few dances; the Local History Society mounted a small display which attracted a lot of interest; and, most important of all, the event was attended by hundreds of villagers,

many with no current connection with the School.

The School's PTA sold 125th anniversary commemorative mugs for the occasion.
