Hempstead, Byford families

"Barry" writes:

I am researching the Hempstead family, and have just discovered the wonderful local history society 'A Glemsford family in the 19th Century' four part article by Sheila Willmoth.

I am descended from the William Hempstead and Kezia Byford part of the family, and would welcome help from anyone to go back beyond 1800.

Also I intend to visit Glemsford in 2009, and try to view the parish registers - How do I do this?

Thanks for your comment, Barry. Most of the Glemsford registers and related material are in the County Record Office in Bury St Edmunds.

Byford research

Pam Culver (as usual I have her contact address) has submitted this query.
"Byford" is a name with a long history on these pages and in Glemsford LHS, but, as usual, if you have anything to offer, please contact me.

Steve Clarke

MY GGG grandfather was George BYFORD born 1784 Belchamp Otten. I think his wife was called Mary or Ann born Wixoe or Tilbury.

I am also researching the BYFORD family in this area. My GG grand father was George BYFORD born Belchamp Otten or Ovington (not sure of the exact date) who married Charlotte ??? his 1st wife) His second wife was Hannah SIMPSON born Belchamp St. Paul 1834. .

The children from these 2 marriages were

Thomas
William
James
Emma
John Charles
Walter

Ephraim
Eliza
George

Sorry for being vague but only just started this line.

Lost contacts

One of the problems with a site like this, and a page like this, is that it has been going so long that some of my contacts have moved on, changed their email address, or given up the search altogether.
These two emails I received from Derek benton highlight this point:

1) I'm writing in reference to the posting made by Janie Richter as I have
direct ancestry with the ALLEN, FARROW and BYFORD names in Glemsford.
If she could email me direct that would be super.

2) I'd also like to write in reference to the posting made by Chris
Bentall/Derek Wordley.
He was asking about the ancestry of Thomas ALLEN who married Maria STEWARD
in 1859.
Thomas' parents were William ALLEN and Sarah TWINNS.
William ALLEN was the youngest brother of my 4th-G-grandfather, James
ALLEN.
I have info on the ALLEN family going back a number of generations.
If he wants to email me that would be great and I can pass over any info I
have.

Unfortunately, I seem to have lost touch with at least two of these earlier contributors to whom Derek refers.

If any of them is still out there, could he or she get in touch with me, and I'll pass the information on to Derek.
