Glemsford's Schools

One of the constants in the life of Glemsford for over 130 years has been the School on Lion Road. Originally built as three SchoolS, for Infants, Girls and Boys, it has provided a secure start in life for many generations of Glemsfordians.
Its history is part of Glemsford's story, and it deserves a separate section here.

I have put together a number of pages looking at different aspects of life in the School, concentrating largely on the Victorian era:

Introduction

Building the Schools

The Infants' School

Staffing the early School

Keeping Warm: problems with the heating

Illness

Visitors and interruptions

Holidays and other treats

In praise of the Victorian Schoolmistress

Eleanor Bowrey: a real teacher

Some snapshots from the Infant School Logbook
