The Search Continues

History never stands still.
As soon as one set of facts has been established, so more information arrives to illuminate or dispute what has been discovered.
That's what makes it so much fun.

That is what provoked the creation of the Brown Contents Page.

And that is the reason for this page - because Tracey and Sandra have continued their researches.

March 2006

Firstly, there are some further details about the family in the 20th Century
  • In Emma Savage's letter to Minnie in 1813, there is a sugggestion that George Brown had moved north (to be near his daughter?).
It is now clear that he died in Keighley - 19 December 1922.
  • Alvah Brown married Emma Annie Thomas, 26 August 1907, in Paddington London.
  • Ethel Anna Brown married Edward Nolan 21st February 1914;
Edward Nolan died 24 November 1921, and Ethel remarried - a James Cobrey, in Keighley.
  • Olive May Brown married Edward Feather in Keighley, 14 May 1921 and she died 17 March 1969.

And there are some extra details about the family in the Nineteenth Century:
  • Ellen Dowsett and John Brown did marry - 12 October 1850 - in Glemsford

Then there is one of those facts which grab you from the printed page:

  • We know from her letter to Minnie that in 1896 Susanna Brown was unwell, and previous research has revealed her death in the registers for the summer of 1896.

We now know that Susanna died on 8 May 1896, from Tuberculosis - that old scourge of people rich and poor, brought on by poor living conditions and lack of medical knowledge.
Susannah had suffered from it for three years.
She had been born on 20 June 1852.
